Dial-A-Ride with Lyft

Dial-A-Ride
Getting around El Segundo is now easier than ever. El Segundo's new Dial-a-Ride program offers residents aged 55 and older, or those with disabilities, free door-to-door transportation to in-town destinations. Rides are available on-demand and can also be scheduled up to 7 days in advance.

Booking a ride is easy:
If you have the Lyft app on your phone, simply call the Joslyn Center to receive an invitation text message. Once you accept the invitation, you rides within El Segundo will become free of charge, up to $15. If you require a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle, go to Lyft App Settings, and toggle on Wheelchair Access.

If you do not have a smart phone or access to the Lyft app, you can book rides by calling the Joslyn Center to use Lyft Concierge Service. Just provide your location, time of departure, destination, and whether you require a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle. You will receive a text message or phone call when your driver is near and again when your driver has arrived. After you verify the driver's name and vehicle license plate number, you are ready to enter the car and enjoy the ride to your destination. Up to three passengers can ride in the car and you can use Dial-a-Ride up to 40 times each month.

For more assistance with Dial-a-Ride, contact the Joslyn Center at 310-524-2705.

Santa's Mailbox Returns

Santa's Mailbox
From November 29 to December 10, kids can write a letter to Santa and drop it off in his mailbox at the Library or at the Checkout Building in Rec Park.

Kids' letters can be written on any paper found at home, just be sure they include their full name and address in the letter and seal it in an envelope. They will receive a handwritten response from Santa himself. While all letters will be personalized, none of the responses will contain any promises of gifts or anything else and will be more focused on the joy of the season.

The project is sponsored by the El Segundo Women's Club.

United Against Hate Week November 14 - 20

No Hate
During the United Against Hate Week, November 14 - 20, check out displays located throughout the library that promote inclusion and inform about social justice including fighting racism, bullying, discrimination, and hate.

You can also leave messages of hope for the community on the tree located outside of the Library's front entrance.

Save the Date for the Tree Lighting and Festival of Holidays

Tree Lighting
We encourage everyone to save the date for the annual Holiday Tree Lighting. This year the City Hall Plaza tree will be lit on Thursday, December 2. The event is from 3:00-7:00 p.m. It is rumored that a special visitor in a bright red suit with a long white beard will be making a special appearance. You will not want to miss this evening of holiday cheer!

 Festival of Holidays

Festival Holidays
The Arts and Culture Advisory Committee, in collaboration with the DEI Committee, invites you to join the Festival of Holidays on Friday, December 3, 4:00-8:00 p.m. at City Hall Plaza. The Festival of Holidays is an initiative supported by the Cultural Development program to recognize and celebrate the diverse cultures and traditions within our community through food, music, performance, and art. We look forward to seeing you there!

Menorah Lighting

Menorah3
On the evening of Wednesday, December 1, at 5:30 p.m., El Segundo celebrates Hanukkah with the annual Menorah Lighting in the City Hall Plaza.

Bringing Programs to Park Vista Residents

Park Vista
Library staff will be bringing weekly programs to Park Vista residents beginning November. To start, some of the offerings include BINGO!, yoga/meditation + balance exercises, book discussion, and ESMoA's Just Draw program. The hope is to provide social opportunities for residents who have been more isolated during COVID, or have a more difficult time participating in programs at the library. These weekly programs will take place in Park Vista's Community Room on the first floor. Please contact Senior Librarian Julie Todd with questions or program suggestions at 310-524-2729 or jtodd@elsegundo.org.
