Art + Dine August 2021 a Success!

A+D
Art + Dine, a program supported by the Arts and Culture Advisory Committee and the Cultural Development Program, was introduced during the month of August to enhance the outdoor dining experience.

Each Friday night in August, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., two different artists set-up “studio” on the 200 block of Richmond Street to create art while the public dined and watched. Artists and diners enjoyed the opportunity and staff are looking for future locations to continue the program.

Teen Advisory Committee BBQ a Success!

Teen BBQ Success
The Teen Advisory Committee (TAC) held their first community event on Thursday, August 19th, 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  at the Recreation Park Fire Circle. Music, games, a movie and plenty of good food was enjoyed by all.

Help Save the Environment!

Waterbottles
Thanks to a grant received by the City's Public Works department, the Library now has a second water bottle refilling station, located adjacent to the downstairs Sue Carter Friends of the Library Community Room. Both stations - the first located at the north west corner of the main floor - allow people to reuse their empty bottles rather than toss the bottles aside.  The stations have sensors to track usage and, in the several years since its installation, the upstairs refilling station has help prevent 3,025 empty bottles from being sent to waste.

Along those lines, the Library has great resources for people interesting in helping to do their part with the environment.  Found on the non-fiction shelves between 363.7 and 363.738 is a wide variety of titles focusing on increasing one’s awareness of the human impact on the earth, including Green Careers, by Jim Cassio and Alice Rush; Inconspicuous Consumption, by Tatiana Schlossberg; and We Are the Weather, by Jonathan Safran Foer.
