IN THIS ISSUE Greetings! This week we’re highlighting upcoming opportunities to receive TTB training, an expansion of the use and limits for a previously-approved wine treating material, and information for industry members impacted by natural disasters. DON’T MISS THESE OPPORTUNITIES FOR TTB TRAININGTTB will be providing training and answering questions at a number of upcoming events. Don’t miss these opportunities to meet and learn directly from TTB employee experts. Be sure to bring your questions! Here’s what we have scheduled in July and August. To view additional events in October and beyond, visit our Outreach Program page on TTB.gov.
EXPANSION OF THE USE OF CHITOSAN AS A WINE TREATING MATERIALWe've granted administrative approval, pending rulemaking, expanding the authorized use of chitosan to now include clarification and fining. The amount authorized for use has also been increased, and now must not exceed 500g/hL of wine. We periodically grant administrative approval to new wine treating materials and processes that we've determined are consistent with good commercial practice (see 27 CFR 24.250). To see all the administrative approvals we've granted, visit our Wine and Juice Treating Materials and Processes for Domestic Wine Production page at TTB.gov. You’re able to use the approved treatments at your winery without filing an application with us, as long as you meet any listed limitations. Administrative approval applies only to wine distributed domestically and does not imply the treatment's acceptability in foreign markets. Keep in mind, we may remove treatments from the approved list based on future rulemaking, so check our Wine and Juice Treating Materials and Processes for Domestic Wine Production page at TTB.gov regularly to find the up-to-date status of administratively approved wine materials and processes.
