Dear JCPS Families,

Thanks to you, your child and the hard work of JCPS staff, an extraordinary 92% of our students participated in the first week of Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) last week. We’re pleased with that number. Let’s keep encouraging our students to stay engaged with their teachers and classmates during this unusual time. Here are a number of important items to pass along to you and your child:

 Last Day of School - The last day of school for students is now scheduled to be June 3rd. The Jefferson County School Board approved changes to the school calendar last night.

 Grading - o At the elementary and middle school level, student progress will be recorded as Met or Not Yet curriculum standards. If a student has “not yet met” a standard, the teacher and family will work together to establish a plan to help the student meet their goals. o In high school (and middle school courses offered for high school credit), students will receive letter grades. Participation in NTI can help improve a grade while non-participation will lead to an Incomplete. There will be plans for high school students to make-up work if they receive an “Incomplete” in a course.

 Report Cards o Due to the closing of school buildings, report cards will not be mailed to families. They will be available in the Parent Portal. o Elementary student grades for the third grading period will be posted in the parent portal after April 17. Here is a link to access the JCPS Parent Portal o Middle and High school students grades for the final two grading periods will be combined and will be available in the JCPS Parent Portal at the end of the year.

 Packets - Hard copies of educational materials are now available, along with Choice Boards, at our Emergency Food sites. JCPS Chief Academic Officer Carmen Coleman tells us what’s in a grade-specific packet and other details in this video: https://youtu.be/e_cWLaEB-Ps

 Broken or Unneeded Chromebook - If you have one of the JCPS loaner Chromebooks and it’s not working OR your child doesn’t need it and you want to return it, fill out this form and we will get back to you with instructions on what to do with it.

 NTI Stars - Your student is an NTI Star, and we want you to show it off! Share your student’s picture with the NTI Star graphic and make sure to tag @JCPSKY and use our hashtag #WeAreJCPSAtHome. You can also print them off to put on your refrigerators and windows at home!  Self Care - We know many of you are suffering additional stress while trying to deal with working from home or losing your job and becoming a teacher’s aide for your child. We have some exercises that might help you take care of yourself.

 Donations for Chromebooks - JCPS wants to ensure all students have access to a computer so we’ve launched a campaign to purchase more Chromebooks for next school year. Rally’s, Passport Health Plan and Help Us Grow Foundation have made significant contributions already. If you, your organization or company wish to donate, follow this link and click on the “Donate” box, then select “Make a Donation”.

If you have any questions feel free to contact JCPS at 313-HELP. Thanks for encouraging your child to stay in touch with their teacher(s) and do their best during NTI.

Sincerely,

JCPS Communications
