Family Resource Centers
Get the help and resources you need at our Family Resource Centers. They help children, families, and communities thrive. We design each resource center with unique services to meet the needs of the community around it. In May, we referred families to more than 80,000 community resources. We also offered dozens of classes, support, community events, and meetings.

Stay cool when the weather gets hot
Are you ready for summer? You may find the heat welcome relief after colder days, but when the temperatures rise, so does your risk of heat-related illness. You’re more vulnerable to this risk if you’re over age 60, under 18, or if you have a chronic disease or mental illness. Learn how to keep your family safe outdoors and indoors, take care of your community, and recognize the signs of heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.

Supporting families and building community at Lakewood Family Resource Center
Lakewood Family Resource Center (LFRC) supports families in the Lakewood community. Housed in Lorene’s Place II, LFRC provides a diaper bank, bilingual Toddler Story Time, a food bank, bus tickets, and a Teen Zone.
|
 Check out LFRC’s latest activities:
- Recognizing the important role of moms and dads, LFRC celebrated Mother’s Day with a special event focused on self-care and emotional wellness. They honored Father’s Day with special gifts for dads.
- Teens can join the Spring Teen Girl Support Group, a safe space where girls build coping skills, make healthy friendships, and learn to manage emotions.
- LFRC offers the support of Community Health Workers to help families access healthcare, connect to vital resources, and enroll in programs like Medical Assistance and TANF.
Lakewood Family Resource Center is a place of hope and help for the whole family!

Fostering creativity and community with Toolbox Laboratories
Inspired by craft and community, Toolbox Laboratories is a community workshop and professional woodshop. They have classes, events, workshops, and projects for all ages and abilities. You’ll find them at street fairs, community markets, libraries, school settings, and at their new location: 309 Puyallup Ave., Tacoma.
Thanks to a new partnership with Family Support Partnership, Toolbox Laboratories sets up shop at the Eastside Family Resource Center during parent club meetings. Parents can engage in meaningful connections while their children enjoy a safe environment where they can have fun with hands-on crafts and activities!
Toolbox Laboratories offers a ton of classes (home repair, tool safety, project consultation, woodworking, crafty things, and more!), fun projects, and craft nights. These great activities foster community and increase access to engage in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM).
And best of all? Cost is never a barrier! Connect with them and let them know what you want to learn or build. Plus, whether you’re turning 3 or 83, they also love to host birthday parties!
