New Pathways Park in Laurelhurst: Accessible and Welcoming for All
The new Pathways Park in Seattle’s Laurelhurst neighborhood isn’t a traditional playground; it’s more like a park with lovely winding trails and play opportunities along the way. The mission of Pathways Park is to be a welcoming place for people of all ages, abilities and identities. After more than a year of construction, the fences have come down. Pathways Park was supported by the Neighborhood Matching Fund and is the result of more than seven years of outreach, fundraising and design, led by Eli’s Park Project. The park honors the memory of Eli Reischl, a little boy who had Down syndrome and a big, big smile. He died unexpectedly in August 2017, just before his 4th birthday.
