Here's what is included in this interim email update:
-
Roadway asphalt updates
- Roadway painting work
Roadway Asphalt starting April 29!
Earlier this month, we removed the top few inches of asphalt from the road surface. Next week, we will start laying new asphalt. We have received a temporary noise variance from the City to perform this work during nighttime hours starting April 29 through May 4. This work will take place along corridor, from 3rd Avenue downtown to Martin Luther King Jr Way in Madison Valley at the following locations:
-
Between 3rd and 4th (south lane)
-
Between Boren and Minor (north lane)
-
Between Minor and Summit (both north and south lanes)
-
Between Summit and Boylston (north lane)
-
Between Boylston and Broadway (south lane)
-
Between Broadway to 11th (north and south lanes)
-
Between 12th and 13th (north lane)
-
Between 13th and 15th (north and south lanes)
-
17th Avenue (east lane south of Madison by Shell)
-
20th Avenue (west lane north of Madison)
-
Olive Way at Madison (north lane)
-
22nd Avenue (east lane south of Madison by Safeway)
-
Between 28th and 29th (north lane closer to the intersection with 28th by Kamp Social)
The new asphalt will create a smoother and safer driving surface for the corridor. This work will wrap up before the start of RapidRide G service later this summer.
While we lay new asphalt, driveways and intersections may be blocked temporarily. However, there will be no driveway obstructions after 7 a.m. and before 7 p.m. Below are the locations where we will lay new asphalt:

Painting roadway lines starting May 6!
Starting Monday, May 6, we will start applying paint to roads. This paint will indicate traffic lanes, pedestrian crossings, stops, and other important markings along the majority of the RapidRide G – Madison St. route, from downtown to Madison Valley.
This new paint marks one of the final stages in the corridor’s transformation. Work is scheduled to start the night of Monday, May 6, and will continue into the summer, wrapping up in August, before RapidRide service begins. This work will take place primarily between Monday and Friday during nighttime hours.
Most of this work will take place during nighttime hours. You will likely see large trucks, paving and striping equipment and our crew members working along the corridor. Please use caution and follow traffic guidance to avoid fresh paint if you are traveling in and around the Madison St corridor. We do not anticipate any long-term roadway or intersection closures during the painting. Additionally, our crews will comply with noise level limits established in the Temporary Noise Variance issued by the City of Seattle.
