We're embarking on a new year teeming with progress and purpose.

As we step into the final stretch of the voter-approved Levy to Move Seattle, our determination is stronger than ever to deliver equitable, impactful projects across our beautiful city. We'll break ground on the RapidRide J Line project, set to bolster transportation options for even more residents. We're charging forward by kicking off safety and paving work in Ballard, extending bus lanes on Rainier Ave S in southeast Seattle, and reaching completion of the Madison RapidRide G Line in the heart of Seattle, and so much more. Here is a roundup of recent blog posts and updates that highlight a few of the projects around town that Levy dollars have made possible.

Major projects move a step closer to construction: Route 40 upgrades for 7,500+ daily riders, Ravenna area paving & safety, bridge seismic strengthening, Safe Routes to School, and more!

• We’re excited to announce that multiple projects have moved forward in the contractor selection process.
• Advertising the projects to contractors means these projects are one step closer to starting construction in 2024.
• These projects include:
  • 1) Route 40 Transit-Plus Multimodal Corridor project
  • 2) 11th Ave NE & 12th Ave NE Paving & Safety Project in the Roosevelt/Ravenna/U District neighborhoods
  • 3) Safe Routes to School – Broadview-Thomson & Cedar Park Elementary Enhancements
  • 4) Route 48 Transit-Plus Multimodal Corridor project
  • 5) Pedestrian bridge seismic reinforcement projects in several locations
  • 6) 15th Ave NE/NE 105th St bridge seismic reinforcement in north Seattle
  • 7) 4th Ave protected bike lane upgrades

The City of Seattle celebrated receiving $64.2 million from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) for the construction of the RapidRide J Line project. 

"As Seattle works to build the best transit and transportation infrastructure in the country, we appreciate the support from our federal partners. Secretary Buttigieg, Senator Murray, Senator Cantwell, and Congresswoman Jayapal have prioritized projects that are good for Seattle, good for jobs, and good for transit. Our federal delegation has been relentless in their support of this critical project and other City and regional priorities. Seattle continues to invest in transportation options and infrastructure that provides riders with quick, reliable, and dependable service."  - Mayor Bruce Harrell

“RapidRide J will make it reliable, safer and more attractive to ride the bus or bike from downtown to the University District, strengthening a regionally significant connection. We are making major investments to seven of Seattle’s critical bus routes thanks to the Levy to Move Seattle, and are thankful to the Federal Transit Administration, Secretary Buttigieg, Senator Murray, Senator Cantwell, and Congresswoman Jayapal for recognizing and funding this effort.” - SDOT Director Greg Spotts

• The RapidRide J Line project will enhance bus access, reliability, frequency, and station amenities, make proven safety improvements, and upgrade critical infrastructure.
• This is one of many major transit investments the Levy to Move Seattle is delivering to create a more connected city since being passed by voters in 2015.
• The Rapid Ride J line will pass over the newly rebuilt and award-winning Fairview Ave N Bridge, another key Levy to Move Seattle project which was completed in 2021.

We began construction on the NE 143rd St Sidewalk, a community-requested project through the Neighborhood Street Fund!

• In 2019, the Little Brook Sidewalks project was one of 15 projects selected to be funded through SDOT’s Neighborhood Street Fund (NSF) Program.
• The project, located on 32nd Ave NE and NE 143rd St in Little Brook, aims to improve walkability in Little Brook through the construction of new sidewalk and walkway improvements.
• We completed a new sidewalk on 32nd Ave NE in 2022 and completed a new painted walkway on the north side of NE 143rd St in 2023.
• The new sidewalk that we began construction on in January will provide dedicated space for people to walk and connect to recently completed sidewalks on 32nd Ave NE.
