The Seattle Human Services Department (HSD) is seeking a dynamic individual to serve as the department’s Deputy Director. The Deputy Director provides oversight, leadership, and guidance to three divisions—Aging and Disability Services (ADS), Youth and Family Empowerment (YFE), and Safe and Thriving Communities (STC)—with a workforce of over 300 and an operating budget of approximately $233 million.
The Deputy Director is an experienced executive who centers community in their work, serves as a mentor to other executives, and is effective in developing and implementing policy and programmatic recommendations on behalf of HSD and the City of Seattle. The ideal candidate consistently demonstrates a commitment to public stewardship and advancing racial equity by reducing disparities, and leverages their expertise and the experience of clients, community partners, and staff to deliver quality human services.

HSD is one of the largest contributors to Seattle's safety net. HSD contracts with community-based human service providers and administers programs for Seattle residents that provide access to food and shelter, job opportunities, health care, opportunities to gain social and economic independence, and many more of life’s basic needs. HSD’s ADS division also serves King County as the Area Agency on Aging. HSD is committed to working with the community to provide appropriate and culturally responsive services.
