City Seeks Volunteer to Help Shape and Support Public Safety

Apply to be a civil service commissioner

REDMOND, WA - The City of Redmond is seeking applicants for a seat on its Civil Service Commission. The commission is responsible for the hiring and promotional examinations of all regular-status public safety positions. Additionally, it acts as an appeal board for grievances in the Redmond Fire Department and Police Department.

Commissioners are nonpartisan volunteers who must adhere to state and local laws, codes, and rules governing civil service. These include RCW 41.08 for firefighters, RCW 41.12 for police, and RMC 4.10 for boards, commissions, and committees general procedures. Civil Service commissioners are appointed for six-year terms.

The three-member commission meets with city staff at 4:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of every month. Occasionally, there may be a need for a special meeting to be scheduled at the availability of the Civil Service commissioners. Meetings are public and open to the community.
