Redmond Downtown Park Receives Award of Excellence

REDMOND, WA - The City’s Downtown Park earned the prestigious Award of Excellence for Small-Scale Public Landscapes from the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA). The award recognizes the innovative design and thoughtful planning behind this tech-savvy urban space.

Designed by PFS Studio, a leading planning, urban design, and landscape architecture firm based in Vancouver, BC, Redmond Downtown Park is a testament to visionary design's power in reinvigorating urban spaces. The park, located in the heart of Redmond, is a vibrant gathering place for community engagement and cultural activities.

“This award is a testament to the incredible work of the designers and city staff who reimagined and created a hub for our Downtown corridor,” said Mayor Angela Birney. "Redmond Downtown Park exemplifies our commitment to creating inclusive, dynamic spaces that foster community connection and celebrate our city's heritage and future.”

Inspired by the site's rich history, which was once a peat bog and foraging site for Indigenous peoples, the park pays homage to its past while embracing its present and future as the tech capital of the Pacific Northwest. Collaborating closely with community members, event organizers, and Digipen faculty, the design team created a park that can seamlessly adapt to a variety of events throughout the year.

Key features of the park include a 550-foot-diameter circular lawn surrounded by an underlit wood boardwalk, a splash pad with an events plaza, sculptural pavilion and stage, a picnicking bosque, gardens, and two lounging platforms. Sculptural seating is thoughtfully integrated throughout the park, nestled amongst allees, bosques, and groves of over 100 new trees.
