Retirement Announcement for K9 Chase We’re announcing that our long-time canine companion, Chase, is retiring after many wonderful years of serving our community. He served alongside his handler, Sgt. Shorthill, who is transitioning into a new role within the Police Department. Chase has been an exceptional partner to Sgt. Shorthill, particularly in search and apprehension operations, as well as in assisting with narcotics detection.
After 153 deployments, 57 arrests, 12.5 pounds of drugs located, $19,000 seized, and 3 firearms recovered, Chase is ready to embark on the next chapter of his life!
The special bond he shares with Sgt. Shorthill has truly enhanced the sense of safety in our community. Now it’s time for Chase to enjoy sunny days, plenty of belly rubs, and potato chips with Sgt. Shorthill and his family.
A huge thank you to K9 Chase for your remarkable dedication and loyalty. You will always hold a special place in our hearts! Lastly, best wishes to Sgt. Shorthill as he continues to serve our community at our Police Department in another vital role.

Reading with Cedar Valley Community School Reading is fun! Our Crime Prevention and Community Engagement team and the Chief visited four classes at Cedar Valley Community School to read to 1st and 2nd graders! It was so fun and meaningful to chat with these curious students. The Lynnwood Police Department is so thankful to be able to serve our community of kids and teachers. We love making positive connections! Chief Langdon read a book to a class about all the jobs police officers have. We were also able to hand out books donated by our City of Lynnwood employees, have a discussion about what police officers do, and teach the students when to call 9-1-1.

Public Works
Introducing our next Public Works Director! We are excited to announce that Jared Bond has been selected to lead the Public Works Department as its next Director. On Monday, March 10th, the Lynnwood City Council unanimously confirmed Mayor Frizzell's nomination of Jared to assume the role of Director. He is taking over as Director from Bill Franz, who retired after 33 years of service to the City of Lynnwood last December.
Jared Bond began his career with the City of Lynnwood in 1998 and was hired as an Engineering Technician. From there, Jared was promoted many times to Project Manager, Supervisor, and Operations Manager, and finally served as one of two Deputy Directors for the past four years.
Throughout his career with Lynnwood, Jared has worked on some of the City's most complex and technically challenging issues, including overseeing the Waste Water Treatment Plant Upgrade project and the operation and maintenance of our City's vital infrastructure and helping to prepare the City for disaster by serving as the Emergency Operations Center Deputy Manager. Additional career achievements include the establishment of the City's Fish Hatchery and Environmental Education Center and the creation of the City's Tree Fund and Tree Voucher Program.
"Jared Bond is an inspiring leader; he cares deeply for his staff and this City, and he takes great pride in his work," said Lynnwood Mayor Christine Frizzell. "His ability to lead, collaborate, communicate, and strategize will be a tremendous asset in his role as our next Director. I look forward to his leadership in this department's next chapter."
Jared holds a Bachelor's in Environmental Policy and Planning and a Master's in Public Administration. He also holds a Water Distribution Manager Level 4 certification, the highest level required for someone in the City to operate a water utility.
Jared is an avid long-distance road cyclist and has been his entire life, having ridden all over the world. His wife, two daughters, and energetic Brittany are proud to have called Lynnwood home for the last 17 years. They love camping in their travel trailer, and exploring the treasure that is our National Parks. He takes great honor in living and raising his family in Lynnwood.
"Lynnwood's infrastructure is the pillar upon which the quality of life in this City is built, and it is the duty of the Public Works Department to build and maintain it," said Director Jared Bond. "This is a responsibility that I and my staff take very seriously. As your Public Works Director, I will lead our department with integrity, honesty, and transparency and continue to ensure that Lynnwood is a recognized regional leader for all the services we provide."

Lynnwood receives federal funding for paving project The City has been awarded an additional $1.96M in federal funding toward paving Alderwood Mall Parkway and 33rd Ave W (on either side of the mall) this summer.
Puget Sound Regional Council (PSRC) administers the distribution of federal funds to four counties adjacent to Puget Sound (Snohomish being one of them). They are responsible to make sure the federal dollars get spent on time to ensure funding is not reduced to our region and given to other regions through the country that are meeting their spending targets. Other cities in our region have been having difficulty delivering their projects on time. PSRC reached out to the us to see if we could spend more funds on our project to meet their targets. We have accepted the additional funding.
This will have a positive trickle-down effect to our transportation capital budget by “freeing up” $1.9M of previously allocated city funds which can now be used to pave more streets or further other city transportation projects.
Lynnwood has become a regional leader in delivering federally funded projects. A big thanks to our capital projects team! There is no doubt in my mind that we were awarded these additional funds because of the team’s proficiency in delivering projects!
For questions regarding Mayor's Memo, please email communications@lynnwoodwa.gov.
