FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On May 23, 2023 at 0236hrs a caller reported to 911 that he had fired his gun after confronting a male and a female in the act of stealing his truck in the parking lot of the Best Western Alderwood hotel located at 19332 36th Ave W in Lynnwood. Lynnwood officers arrived within two minutes to find a large truck resting against the corner of a building with the engine still running and a male slumped over in the driver's seat. A female was sitting outside the truck with apparent gunshot wounds.
The reporting caller was also contacted in the parking lot and immediately detained and secured by police. A loaded firearm was recovered. Officers attempted first aid on the male who had been shot, and quickly made the scene secure so that aid personnel could provide immediate medical care. Aid personnel declared the male dead at the scene. The female was transported to a local hospital for care. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
An additional vehicle was observed in the parking lot and identified as likely being associated with the incident and was determined to be a reported stolen vehicle out of Burien. That vehicle and the truck were impounded pending search warrant authorization. The scene was processed for evidence by LPD Detectives and Crime Scene Technicians.
This is an ongoing investigation and evidence is being actively collected and reviewed in consultation with the Snohomish County Prosecutor's Office.
