Crews perform grading for a driveway on the north side of 196th St SW at 40th Ave W
Upcoming lane closures, road closures, and overnight work
- The north and south legs of 48th Ave W at 196th St SW will be fully closed from Tuesday, October 25 at 7 a.m. through Thursday, October 27 at 5 a.m. for signal installation. Please follow posted detour signs during this work.
- On Wednesday, October 26 at 9 p.m., crews will close the southbound I-5 exit to travel west on 196th St SW (SR 524) for nighttime construction. The exit will reopen by 5 a.m. on Thursday, October 27.
- This work is weather dependent, and the schedule subject to change if there is cold or wet weather in the forecast.
- You can expect construction lights and noise while crews complete this work.
- On Wednesday, October 26, crews will begin re-striping and re-channelizing 196th St SW. People driving should expect new travel patterns through the remainder of construction, and please follow all traffic signage.
- Between Monday, October 31 and Wednesday, November 9, crews will be performing curb demolition and restoration at 36th Ave W and 196th St SW.
- You can expect construction noise and lane shifts on 36th Ave W while crews complete this work.
- This work will occur during the daytime.
Concrete work continues
As part of this project, crews will continue completing sidewalk, driveway, and street upgrades which includes pouring and curing concrete. All concrete work is weather dependent, and the schedule subject to change if there is cold or wet weather in the forecast.
Access in and out of driveways will be maintained to the extent possible. If driveways need to be closed for upgrades, our team will notify individual properties in advance.

We understand that the 196th St Improvement Project is impactful on the surrounding neighbors and traffic. Major roadway work for this project is expected to be finished in late 2023.
Our crews are working to complete upgrades as efficiently and effectively as possible. We will continue shifting travel lanes around work zones to allow us to maintain the safety of the crews and traveling public.
