Bike2Health Project Construction Update

Work on the Bike2Health Project started on September 12th by staking out Wayfinding sign locations. The existing pedestrian island crossing on 48th Ave W between 196th St SW and 200th Street SW was demoed. This was followed by forming and pouring the curb & gutter, sidewalk, curb ramp and asphalt patching by the end of the week. The sign subcontractor commenced installation on September 13th.

The week of September 19th, the Contractor focused the replacement of frame & grates along the new bike pathways, with the demolition, removal of the old, together with repair as necessary. The subcontractor was out as well to remove the existing pavement markings, replacing them with temporary pavement markings throughout the week.

Last week, the Contractor installed new frame & grates, poured back the adjacent curb & gutter, then installed asphalt patching around them.

This week, the subcontractor Apply-A-Line is scheduled to commence the installation of the new pavement markings, weather and temperature permitting. This work is expected to be ongoing for the remainder of the project.

Work is expected to run through November 1, 2016 weather and temperature permitting.

The cities of Lynnwood, Edmonds and Mountlake Terrace have been awarded $1.9M from Verdant Health Commission to complete the Bike2Health project.  The project will: 1) complete various missing links of the community's bicycle network; 2) install bicycle warning and guide signs; 3) install bicycle parking at key destinations; and 4) conduct public education and outreach about bicycle safety, benefits, maps and routes. In total, approximately ten miles of the bicycle network will be completed or connected through various methods which include new bicycle lanes, shared lane markings, select widening via landscape strip elimination, elimination of non-essential vehicle capacity lanes, narrowing of existing vehicle lanes and bicycle route signing.
