Kitsap County residents can now recycle scrap metal and used cooking oil at county recycling and garbage facilities. The Kitsap County Solid Waste Division has expanded these collection services to provide more consistent and convenient options across the county.
Expanded scrap metal recycling access
The Olalla and Hansville Recycling and Garbage Facilities now offer free scrap metal recycling. Previously, scrap metal recycling was available only at the Olympic View Transfer Station and Silverdale Recycling and Garbage Facility. Now, customers at all facilities have access to this recycling service.
Collected scrap metal is taken to American Northwest Recycling, a recycling center in Port Orchard. Recycling metal has many benefits. For example, using recycled steel to make new steel reduces air pollution by 86%, water use by 40%, and water pollution by 76% (Metal Recycling Factsheet, EuRIC).
