Introducing the PREP Report Map: A New Resource for Property and Project Planning

March 25, 2025 – The Department of Community Development is excited to announce the launch of the PREP Report Map, a new resource designed to assist property owners and applicants in understanding potential environmental considerations for their parcels. The PREP Report Map helps users identify features that may trigger additional planning requirements, ensuring they are well-prepared before starting their projects.

By using the PREP Report Map, applicants can quickly determine whether their parcel falls under one of three categories:

  • Green – No environmental features have been identified on this parcel.
  • Yellow – Some environmental features, such as buffer zones, geohazards, or shoreline jurisdiction, may require additional review.
  • Red – One or more environmental features have been identified on this parcel and may require additional planning considerations.

Beyond identifying environmental features, the PREP Report Map allows users to create a rough sketch or draft of their intended project on the site. This feature supports early project planning and helps facilitate productive meetings with Community Development staff or project designers. Users can print their sketches and reports for reference during consultations.

This tool is now live and available on our permitting website. We encourage all applicants to use it as a first step in their project planning process. By starting with the PREP Report Map, applicants can streamline the permitting process and avoid unexpected delays.

New Website for an Improved Permitting Experience

Alongside the PREP Report Map, we’ve launched a simplified website, Permit Pathways, designed to make navigation easier for all users. The new site provides step-by-step guidance for beginners while allowing experienced applicants to proceed efficiently with their applications. It also consolidates important resources—such as the Submittal Success Guide and the Intake Checklists—into clear, user-friendly information packages.

Coming Soon: 2x6 Launch for Site Development Activity Permits (SDAP)

In addition to the PREP Report Map launch, we are thrilled to introduce another key component of our Permit Review Efficiency Plan (PREP). The 2x6 SDAP process will go live next week, further enhancing resources and support for our community’s development needs. Stay tuned for more details!
