2021 Building Code Implementation

Port Orchard, WA – As of today, we have not heard any information of additional delays in the implementation of the 2021 Building Code. To prepare for the upcoming change, we want to communicate the associated timelines to ensure vesting under the current 2018 Building Code.

The 2021 Building Code will be effective beginning March 15, 2024. Kitsap County Department of Community Development (DCD) will continue to accept applications based on the existing 2018 codes until 11:59 PM on March 14, 2024. A complete application must be submitted, with all necessary documentation to complete the review, to vest under the 2018 Building Code. All permits must be paid by April 30, 2024, to remain under the 2018 Building Code.

If we hear of any changes in the final days of the 2024 Legislative Session, we will provide updated information. To learn more about the 2021 Building Code changes, we encourage you to visit the Washington State Building Code Council website.
