Rail Signal & Communication Tech- Lead

King County Metro Transit’s Rail Division has an exciting opportunity for Lead Signal and Communications Technicians! Lead Signal and Communication Technicians are responsible for providing lead direction, assigning and coordinating the work of Rail Signal and Communication Technicians. This is a working-lead position and all normal duties of a skilled journey-level Rail Signal and Communication Technician will also be performed. This recruitment is intended to fill one Career Service (CS) vacancy and/or Special Duty Assignment (SDA).
 
Link Light Rail
Metro Transit's Rail Division is responsible for operating and maintaining Link Light Rail service on a 24.7-mile route from the Angle Lake Station south of Sea-Tac Airport to the Northgate Station. Plans and/or construction are underway extending the system to the north, east, south, and west. Expansion over the next five years alone will include the addition of more than 20 stations and 40 miles of light rail track.  The light rail line is a critical part of the region's transportation network and carries more than 79,000 weekday daily riders. 

Who May Apply

This recruitment is open to all qualified applicants internal and external and will be used to fill current Career Service vacancies and Special Duty Assignments at Rail and may be used to establish an eligibility list to fill future career service and/or temporary vacancies that may occur over the next twelve months.
 
Safety Sensitive Position
This position is considered safety sensitive. Applicants for these positions are required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and subsequent to the commencement of employment, will be subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing in compliance with Federal DOT alcohol and controlled substance testing program protocols.
 
Work Schedule
This work unit supports a 24/7/365 operation and is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible. Employees must be able to work one of three shifts: Day, Swing, or Graveyard [shifts that work through the night]. Work schedules may include non-standard work hours including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed. Schedules are based on a seniority "pick" system. Per the union contract, shift differential is paid to those working second and third shifts. Shift pay is 5% for the second shift and 7.5% for the third shift, on top of hourly pay. This is considered to be an essential position and is required to report to work during adverse weather and/or other urgent/emergency needs. Per the union contract the current hourly rates are: 
  • Day shift: $63.37
  • Swing shift: $66.54
  • Graveyard/ 3rd Shift: $68.12
