Today, the Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) and partners are launching ScalaNW, a new program to expand access to lifesaving treatment for people with opioid use disorder (OUD).
The program equips emergency room clinicians with tools to treat patients who use drugs and connect them to community-based care. ScalaNW is also a resource for:
- Clinical protocols for patients with OUD in a hospital or emergency department setting
- Educational resources for patients and providers about drug use and treatment
- Ongoing trainings and webinars for providers
- And more

Enrollment in ScalaNW is simple, voluntary, and non-contractual. ScalaNW will provide technical assistance implementing the program every step of the way, including access to follow up appointment scheduling. By providing medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) in the hospital setting you may:
- Reduce morbidity and mortality
- Improve patient health outcomes
- Increase patient and provider satisfaction
- Improve quality measures
- Decrease health system costs
