Updates & Opportunities

Parent Advisory Group (PAG) – Recruitment Coming Soon

PAG is an advisory group to DCYF. PAG members should have personal experience with DCYF services including Child Welfare, Early Learning, and Juvenile Rehabilitation.

Examples of ways PAG advises DCYF:

  • Provides advice and feedback
  • Shares and discusses new ideas
  • Asks questions about the work of DCYF

To learn more, visit the Parent Advisory Group webpage or email Joey Charlton at joey.charlton@dcyf.wa.gov

Passion 2 Action – Youth Advisory Board

Passion 2 Action is the official youth advisory board for DCYF.

This group empowers youth to:

  • Advocate for system improvements
  • Share their lived experiences
  • Help inform policies and programs that impact young people

To learn more, visit the Passion to Action webpage or email Peggy Lewis at peggy.lewis@dcyf.wa.gov.

Round 4 Statewide Assessment – Children's Bureau

Every eight years, DCYF conducts interviews as required by the Children's Bureau. As part of this statewide assessment, we are inviting youth and parents with lived experience (within the past five years) to participate. Your honest feedback — both positive and negative — is essential. We want to hear the full picture of your experience with DCYF.

Round 1: DCYF Staff Interviews

  • March (scheduled based on availability)
  • Approximately 2 hours
  • Compensation: $57 per hour

Round 2: Children’s Bureau Interviews

  • August
  • Approximately 1 hour
  • Compensation: $50 gift card

Your voice directly informs federal and state improvements to the child welfare system. There are 5 parent/caregiver spots and 7 youth spots remaining. Participants will be chosen in the order we hear from you, as long as you meet the required lived experience criteria.

For information, email Lily Cory at lily.cory@dcyf.wa.gov.

Strategic Planning with Lived Experts (2027–2031)

DCYF is beginning work on its next five-year strategic plan — the roadmap that will guide programs, services, goals, and priorities from 2027 to 2031. We want this plan to reflect what truly matters — and that means hearing directly from you.

Join a Virtual Youth Roundtable

DCYF is inviting youth to participate in a 3-hour virtual roundtable discussion hosted on Microsoft Teams. We’ll explore questions such as:

  • What’s working well?
  • What’s not working?
  • What needs to change to better support young people and families across Washington?

Compensation

Participants will receive $57 per hour for their time and expertise.

Your input will help create a stronger, more responsive system that supports well-being, stability, and opportunity for young people across the state. There are 10 spots for youth and 10 spots for parents and caregivers. Participants will be chosen in the order we hear from you.

For information, email Lily Cory at lily.cory@dcyf.wa.gov.
