Meet Davonte Robertson: We Are Family First Pitch Kid

Davonte, first pitch kid.

The Washington State Department of Children Youth and Families (DCYF) is excited to announce that Davonte Robertson, 16, will throw the first pitch at We Are Family Day on Sunday, May 7.

Davonte is a huge sports fan. He approaches all people like teammates-with empathy, encouragement, respect, and sincere interest in other people. Add to this his natural athleticism and that he seems to be good at everything he tries.

Those who know Davonte best will tell you that to know Davonte is to love him. He’s easy-going, fun, very smiley, and will try things even if it’s not his inclination. When meeting new folks, Davonte asks lots of questions and may tell you about his interest in attending a Monster Truck rally or his favorite character, Black Panther. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of cars, too, and would love to own a sports car one day.

DCYF’s partner, Northwest Adoption Exchange, described Davonte in his recruitment profile: "If a friend or peer is having a hard time or a bad day, Davonte can be counted on to lend a helping hand, a high five, or a hug… It goes without saying that Davonte has…the kind of spirit that lifts up everyone around him."

Davonte was nominated by his former caseworker Heather Mimms, and is supported by his caseworker Angie Andrew.

Join Davonte’s team on Sunday, May 7 and help us cheer him on as he throws the first pitch! Here’s to all the incredible foster and kinship families who help to ensure that all of Washington’s young people grown up safe, loved, and celebrated!

To learn more about this incredible young person, visit Davonte’s adoption profile on Northwest Adoption Exchange or email Angie Andrew.
