Upcoming Traffic Modification at 4th Avenue and Alder Street
Beginning on Nov. 13, 2026, the existing traffic signal at the 4th Avenue and Alder Street intersection will transition to flashing operation. During this period, 4th Avenue will flash red, and Alder Street will flash yellow. Stop signs will also be installed on 4th Avenue.
This temporary change is required to meet the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices’ minimum 90‑day flashing period before removing a traffic signal. In January 2027, the signal heads and cabinet will be removed. The existing poles will remain in place for street lighting.
Reasons for this change: The existing traffic signal, originally installed in the 1970s, has reached the end of its life. Replacing the signal would cost approximately $750,000. A traffic signal warrant analysis completed in August 2026 determined that the signal is not warranted.
