One of the things I love most about Auburn is the incredible diversity of the people who call our community home -- and on Sunday, we’re celebrating it all in one place!
The fourth annual Multicultural Community Festival is coming to the Auburn Farmers Market today, Sunday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Les Gove Park.
Come out for food, fun, fashion and more as we celebrate the cultures, traditions and people that make Auburn such a special place to live. While you’re there, you can shop the Farmers Market and support our local farmers, food vendors and artisans.
And one more reason to join us: It’s the FINAL Auburn Farmers Market of the season! I know -- I can hardly believe it, either. I hope to see you there!
📅 Sunday, Sept. 20 ⏰ 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. 📍 Les Gove Park | 1140 Auburn Way S.
On Thursday, we brought Team Auburn together at the Auburn Community and Events Center for our Employee Appreciation Luncheon. For a little while at least, meeting rooms, job sites and service counters gave way to food trucks, games, music and time to catch up with coworkers.
City work is people work. Every day, this team keeps Auburn moving, cares for our parks and streets, responds when people need help and provides the services our community depends on. I’m deeply grateful for the care and pride they bring to that work -- and I hope they know just how much they are appreciated!
A big thank you to everyone who helped organize this year's (and every year's) event!
The first week of our 2026 Civics Academy is officially in the books, and this group came ready to learn!
During the eight-week program, participants will meet City staff, visit facilities (the Auburn Airport is typically a favorite), and get a behind-the-scenes look at how decisions are made, public funds are used responsibly, and essential City services are delivered.
Thank you to everyone who signed up and is giving their time to learn more about Auburn. An informed and engaged community makes our city stronger!
Interested in joining us next year? Bookmark our Civics Academy webpage for future application information.
You can also email neighborhoodprograms@auburnwa.gov with questions.
After a year and a half of construction, Valley Regional Fire Authority Station 36 officially opened this week, and Engine 336 is now responding to calls from its brand-new home.
This is an important milestone for public safety and for the residents who depend on fast, reliable emergency response. Thank you to the VRFA team and community members who supported this new station from planning through construction.
The celebration isn’t over yet! VRFA will announce details about a public open house soon, giving everyone a chance to tour the station and meet our firefighters up close in the brand-new facility!
A big thank you to Deputy Mayor Tracy Taylor and Councilmember Hanan Amer for attending the ribbon-cutting, and to Deputy Mayor Taylor especially for speaking!
Anyone who travels through the South Sound knows how important SR 167 is to Auburn and our entire region. Which is why I'm happy to share that the first two miles of the new SR 167 Expressway between I-5 and SR 509 near the Port of Tacoma are now open, marking a major step toward completing the missing highway connection between Puyallup and the port.
When completed, the project will create six miles of new highway, improve freight movement, reduce congestion on local roads and provide new walking and biking connections. Construction will continue in stages through 2030, but seeing this first segment carrying traffic is meaningful progress toward the safer, more reliable regional transportation system our residents and businesses need.
You can learn more about the SR167 completion project on the Washington State Department of Transportation's website.

Hidden Layers: Women’s Undergarments and How They’ve Shaped Ladies’ Liberties
12 & Up | Free Program
Women’s underwear has long reflected society’s views on modesty, femininity, and beauty. From historic styles that restricted the female form to the more liberating fashions of today, women’s undergarments have been symbols of both oppression and empowerment. This talk is made possible through the Humanities Washington Speakers Bureau.

Second Saturdays: Music and Arts of India
Update: This event has moved from September 12th to October 10th, 2026. We apologize for any inconvenience!
Join us at the Postmark for a celebration of Indian music and art! This event is completely free, with interactive and educational elements designed to be fun for the whole family. All programming is presented by local artists from Auburn and the surrounding area.

This beginner friendly, hands on workshop introduces participants to the traditional South Indian art of Kolam. The workshop will begin with a brief introduction to Kolam, its history, cultural significance, the different styles, and the tradition of practicing it as a daily ritual. Participants will then learn the fundamentals using guided practice sheets before creating their own Kolam designs on the floor with step-by-step instruction. Eternal Seasons - Auburn Symphony Orchestra
Vivaldi’s Four Seasons has been loved for centuries. Max Richter steps inside that familiar world and hears it anew.
Four Seasons Recomposed keeps Vivaldi close while weaving in Richter’s cinematic, post-minimalist voice, creating music that feels faithful, fresh, and alive in the present. Auburn Symphony Concertmaster Emilie Choi takes center stage as soloist.
Then Mozart’s final symphony, later nicknamed Jupiter, brings the afternoon to a brilliant close with grandeur, wit, and one of the most dazzling finales in classical music.
Tickets available on the Auburn Symphony Website.

Our Planning Commission is looking great! Why the group photo? Check your Auburn Magazine, release at the end of this month, to find out!
Auburn is rich with history — from historical Main Street to the artifacts preserved throughout White River Valley Museum — I am excited to share these stories with all of you each week.

Group of Auburnites at an Independent Order of Good Templars conference, 1927. The IOGT was a pro-Temperance organization dedicated to removing alcohol from American culture by “waging a crusade.” This crusade generally took the form of sponsoring alcohol-free entertainments like lectures, musical performances, family-friendly alternative holiday celebrations, and alcohol-free food service businesses.
