"It's like a beach blanket and a bottle of wine, it feels something like summertime."

Temperature are expected to remain in the 80s throughout the weekend and much of next week, which means it's important to remain cool and hydrated. That means staying indoors if possible, limiting strenuous outdoor activity, and drinking plenty of water!
In Auburn, we have many ways for community members to seek relief from high temperatures, including cooling centers and public buildings with air conditioning.
For more info, check out our Alerts and Updates page on the City of Auburn website.
The Senior Activity Center is a wonderful resource
The Senior Center is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at 808 Ninth Street SE near Les Gove Park. Normally the Center is open to adults aged 50 plus, but in extreme heat like we are experiencing, all ages are welcome to come in and cool down. Children need to be accompanied by an adult. No appointment is necessary. Call 253-931-3016 for more information.
As are the Ray of Hope and Sundown shelters
Other hot weather cooling locations in Auburn include the Ray of Hope Day Resource Center, open daily to persons experiencing homelessness, at 2806 Auburn Way North. Overnight relief is available each night at the Sundown Overnight Shelter, from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., at the same location.
The Arcadia Shelter and Drop-In Center, at 932 Auburn Way South, is also available during the day, Sunday through Saturday, from 2:30 to 6 p.m., for young people ages 12 to 24, and overnight Sunday through Saturday, from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m.
For the latest episode of That's so Auburn! I had the pleasure of sitting down and chatting with City of Auburn interns Angee Pogosian, William Olson, and Emma Blanton. All three of part of the city's internship program called Next Step Auburn, which for 10 weeks over the summer, invites several students or recent graduates to intern at departments all across the city.
I'm continually impressed with our cohort this year. Each intern is doing important and exciting work throughout the City of Auburn, from engineering projects like installing a new bridge connecting Game Farm and Game Farm Wilderness Parks, to running our Rec N Roll and Farmer's Market programs. I hope you'll give the episode by following the link below, or checking it out wherever you get your podcast!
Speaking of interns, we had a meet and greet Wednesday!
I had the pleasure of meeting all 10 of the Next Step Auburn interns Wednesday morning for a quick meet-and-greet in the mayor's office. I got to hear about their journey to the City of Auburn, the amazing projects they've completed, accomplishments they're most proud of, and best of all, hear them gush about their fellow colleagues and supervisors!

Growing up, I spent so much time at that track and have cherished memories of my brother Gary racing out there. Inspired by my big brother, I also raced a bit myself!
I hope you're able to make it to the track as well! Who knows -- maybe you'll make a lifelong memory.

Did you know our Postmark Center for the Arts offers a free, all-ages arts, performance or crafts workshop every second Saturday of the month, from noon to 4 p.m.?
This Saturday's program is guest artist Wol-Un from 1 to 3 p.m., who is leading a hands-on workshop. Wol-Un (월운, 月雲) is an interdisciplinary artist born in Seattle.
"My practice is strongly rooted in the cultural traditions of Korean ink painting and calligraphy," he told our arts staff. "By synthesizing these centuries-old techniques with contemporary methods, through the inclusion of new motifs, unconventional compositions, and modern styles of presentation, I aim to facilitate a connection between historical visual languages, narratives, and aesthetics within the modern world."
