King County Wastewater Treatment Division will be repairing a 2.6-mile section of a sewer pipe that serves many around M Street in Auburn. The M Street Trunk Rehabilitation Project design phase will kick off in the coming weeks, with construction scheduled for 2026.
The M Street Trunk is a pipe carries untreated wastewater from homes, businesses, and schools in Auburn to the South Treatment Plant in Renton, where it is cleaned and safely released into Puget Sound.
The M Street Trunk was installed in 1963 and has deteriorated due to the long-term effects of hydrogen sulfide exposure. The hydrogen sulfide is a normal biproduct of wastewater and to be expected, but it does cause some deterioration. King County rehabilitate the pipe by installing a liner inside that will protect against further corrosion. The work will keep the M Street Trunk working for you and your neighborhood for decades, avoiding failure, overflow, and service disruption.
This project will repair approximately 2.6 miles of pipe that has more than 100 side sewer connections to homes and businesses in those neighborhoods. The project will also rehabilitate 45 precast maintenance holes.
To maintain sewer service to your neighborhoods, the rehabilitation work will require wastewater to be pumped out of the pipe into a temporary above ground and shallow buried bypass. Odor control will be installed at critical points in the sewer diversion system.
King County wants to know what community priorities matter most to you and how they can best keep you informed throughout the project. And that means, SURVEY TIME!
If you live in the area, please take 3-5 minutes to fill out the survey below.
Help celebrate Earth Day by participating in this important annual event, where hundreds of Auburn residents will descend upon parks, downtown sidewalks and wherever is needed, to clean and beautify our wonderful city!
Everyone is welcome to join in the fun! We invite service clubs, social service agencies, faith-based groups, scouting troops, businesses, families, and individuals to come out for the day, work together on some beautification projects, and celebrate Auburn.
Individuals and groups can either choose to participate in a specific project or float wherever is needed most.
Volunteers must register in advance by Wednesday, April 17, 2024, either online or by downloading the PDF and sending to Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation.
For additional information about volunteer recruitment, call 253-931-3043 or email avaldez@auburnwa.gov
