Notice of Public Comment Period - Guidelines for Notification and Reporting of Communicable Diseases in Licensed Child Day Centers (8VAC20-780)

Pursuant to § 2.2-4002.1 of the Code of Virginia, the guidance document, Guidelines for Notification and Reporting of Communicable Diseases in Licensed Child Day Centers, will be published in the Virginia Register of Regulations (Volume 42, Issue 25) on July 27, 2026, starting a 30-day public comment period that continues through August 26, 2026.
The purpose of this action is to provide information and instruction on the requirements in 8VAC20-780-490 C for notifying parents when children at the center have been exposed to a communicable disease listed in the Virginia Department of Health’s communicable disease chart. It also outlines the requirement to report all outbreaks to the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) pursuant to 12VAC5-90-80 and 12VAC5-90-90 as referenced in the standards.
Comments on the proposed guidance document may be submitted via the Virginia Regulatory Town Hall. To view and enter comments, view the Guidance Document Forums and select the corresponding forum for the Board of Education, Chapter 8VAC20-780. Comments must be received by 11:59 p.m. on August 26, 2026.
