K–12 Computer Science Standards of Learning Workshop
In preparation for implementation of the 2024 Computer Science SOL, the VDOE will host a four-hour workshop for division and school leaders. This informative and collaborative session will focus on the implementation of the Standards and the development of sustainable models for K-12 computer science education that meet the Virginia Standard of Quality expectations. Youth Mental Health First Aid Training for School Personnel
The VDOE Office of Behavioral Health and Student Safety is facilitating Youth Mental Health First Aid Training opportunities for school personnel. This free virtual training is a blended model in which learners complete a two-hour, self-paced online course and then are eligible to participate in the instructor-led training via video conference (approximately 4.5 to 5.5 hours). Participants can access the training dates and register via the YOUTH Mental Health First Aid Registration Form by July 3, 2025. VDOE Office of English Professional Learning
Join the VDOE English Program for professional learning sessions designed to support the implementation of the 2024 English Standards of Learning. Advance registration is required for sessions tailored to division leaders, building administrators, reading specialists, coaches, and classroom teachers. Topics include Foundational Skills, Planning for Integration, Text-Dependent Questions, Purposeful Planning, and more. Details are available from VDOE.
Counselor Collaboration
Join Virginia School Counselor Association for a Counselor Collaboration Carnival on July 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Steward School in Richmond. Come share an idea, initiative, program, or intervention that you have seen have a positive impact on students with your fellow school counselors - with a ""carnival booth"" spin. Save the Date: Second Annual Reading Revolution – October 13–17, 2025
Let’s bring history to life—one story at a time. In partnership with the VA250 Commission, VDOE invites you to take part in the 2nd Annual Reading Revolution—a weeklong celebration connecting elementary students with the community, museums, and libraries through reading. Held during Reading Revolution Week in October leading up to Yorktown Victory Day, volunteers are encouraged to read to students about the American Revolution, the Constitution, civic principles, and the people and events that shaped our democracy. Free Professional Learning Opportunity for World Language Teachers
EdcampCIVA 2025, hosted by the Comprehensible Input Virginia Alliance, will take place on July 10, from 9 a.m. to 1p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Norfolk. This free, one-day professional learning event provides a collaborative environment for World Language educators to share ideas, examine acquisition-driven practices, and engage with current proficiency-based instructional approaches.
