Summer 2024 Webinars for Fine Arts Teachers and Instructional Leaders VDOE Fine Arts staff will host Summer 2024 VDOE Fine Arts Webinars to support new and veteran teachers in gaining foundational concepts and resources to plan standards-aligned instruction in the 2024-2025 school year. The most up-to-date resources and information will be shared for planning and leading instruction in the new school year. English Standards of Learning Resources Released The first wave of supports for the 2024 English Standards of Learning have been posted. Understanding the Standards documents, Overview of Revisions narrated PowerPoints, Grade Band Side-by-Sides, and Progression charts are available. Reference the 2024 English Standards of Learning webpage for more details. Division leaders should work with English leaders, instructional coaches, and teachers to help plan for the implementation of the new Standards in 2024-2025.
Call for Proposals: PreK-12 School Innovation Planning Grant Individual school divisions or consortia school divisions are eligible to submit proposals meeting the intent of the grant. Proposals may target one or more schools in each participating school division. The 2024 Appropriation Act has provided funding for up to five competitive planning grants to be awarded in fiscal year 2025, each not to exceed $50,000. Full details about this year’s application process and submission details can be found in the PreK-12 School Innovation Grant Call for Proposals. Interested applicants must apply by 4 p.m. on July 16.
Nominations for 2024-2025 CTE Curriculum Review Committees The Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education is accepting nominations for the 2024-2025 CTE curriculum review committees. School divisions may nominate a CTE teacher for any of the 39 committees, as outlined in the CTE Review/Development Committee Schedule. Approximately 12 applicants will be selected by the Superintendent of Public Instruction to serve on each committee. All nominees who wish to serve on a committee must complete the web-based application using the CTE Application Processing System. More information is available from Article 2024-22-193.
SWVA Administrators Network Improvement Community Forum Registration is open for the Forum on June 21 from 9-3 p.m. at Radford University’s Kyle Hall. The free workshop will focus on how to lead schools where teachers come, stay, and thrive. Outstanding teachers and leaders from the area will present their work at this event. School divisions are invited to bring a team of key leaders.
VASTA Stringspiration The Virginia String Teachers Association will be holding the second annual Summer Stringspiration. It will be held on August 3 at Cox High School in Virginia Beach from 9:30 a.m.-5:30p.m. Register or email Angela Ammerman for more information.
Teacher Residency Partnership Opportunity The Office of Apprenticeships is accepting proposals for a teacher residency partnership. This is between university teacher preparation programs and hard-to-staff school divisions to help improve teacher candidate training and retention for hard-to-staff schools. The grants will support a site-specific residency model for planning, development, and implementation of the program. Details available at Teacher Residency Programs Call for Proposals. Virginia Children's Engineering STEM Institute This regional offering will be held on September 21 at King's Fork Middle School, Suffolk. Teachers and administrators will have the opportunity for networking and learn more about STEM in breakout sessions. This is the first of several regional events. Join to learn more!

SEED Program Virtual Information Session George Mason’s SEED Program is designed for undergraduate and graduate students aspiring to be licensed in secondary teaching or fulfilling provisional licensure requirements. Endorsement areas include biology, chemistry, computer science, earth science, English, history and social science, mathematics, and physics. This session provides information about the SEED program, connects you with the program coordinator, faculty, and advisor, and helps determine if teaching is right for you. Seeking Initial Endorsement or Provisional? Mary Baldwin University will be offering a virtual information session to share asynchronous programs for graduates. Programs include those seeking an initial endorsement/license, on a provisional, or desiring an additional area of endorsement such as Reading or Gifted Education. Coursework taken at MBU at the graduate level may be applied to an MEd degree. Join the virtual MBU Informational session on June 27 at 4 p.m. or contact Pam Bailey questions.
