Toolkits from Virginia ABC Community Health and Engagement
Virginia ABC Community Health and Engagement offers free toolkits to aid prevention events and efforts on a variety of topics. The Being Outstanding Leaders Together Against Drugs and Alcohol (BOLT) program offers free online trainings and resources to increase the capacity of middle school prevention professionals as they work to reduce youth substance use among their students. BOLT materials support middle school prevention activities including in-classroom curriculum instruction and participation in substance use awareness weeks.
Virginia Commission for the Arts (VCA) Arts Education Grants
Education Impact grants are for longer-term residencies and workshops taking place July 1, 2024 through June 15, 2025. Eligible Virginia schools, nonprofit organizations, and units of local and tribal government can apply to engage teaching artists for educational programming.
Arts in Practice grants program provides support of up to $1,500 (15 percent cash match) to eligible Virginia Pre–K-12 schools, nonprofit organizations, and units of local and tribal government for short-term residencies focused on participatory and experiential learning conducted by professional teaching artists.
VA Council on Women’s 13th Annual STEAM-H Essay Contest
The Virginia Council on Women will provide one merit-based and one need-based scholarship to female high school seniors in each of the five geographic regions across the Commonwealth through a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and Healthcare (STEAM-H) essay contest. This year, merit-based scholarships will be awarded based on the quality of the essay submitted, and the need-based scholarships will be awarded based on the quality of the essay and the individual's self-identified financial need.

Unmistakable Impact: Scaffolding Learning for Gains and Growth with presenter Dr. John Almarode, JMU, on March 22 at 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at PD Space at Center One 1180 Seminole Place, Suite 225 Charlottesville. Pk-12 Educators will unpack how to design and implement instructional scaffolding that accelerates student learning.
Application Window open for the Science Standards of Learning Revision Committees
The VDOE is seeking nominations for individuals who are qualified and available to serve on the Science Standards Revision Committee to review the K-12 Science Standards of Learning during the summer of 2024. Nominees should be teachers, principals, administrators, content specialists, reading specialists, or other educators who have expertise with the content area and current standards. The Committee will meet between June 25-June 27, 2024, at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, to review and revise the standards. Individuals who wish to serve on a committee to review the K-12 Science Standards of Learning must submit an application using the SOL Teacher Committee Application Form by March 29.

WIDA Focus Bulletin on Interactive Learning in Content-Area Classrooms
Interactive learning is key to multilingual learners’ academic success, language development, and sense of belonging in the classroom community. Read Interactive Learning with Multilingual Learners in Content-Area Classrooms for a discussion of two aspects of interactive learning, expressing and co-constructing ideas. This resource also includes sample interactive learning activities and questions to help educators reflect on the role of interactive learning in their classroom.
