WIDA Focus Bulletin on Interactive Learning in Content-Area Classrooms
Interactive learning is key to multilingual learners’ academic success, language development, and sense of belonging in the classroom community. Read Interactive Learning with Multilingual Learners in Content-Area Classrooms for a discussion of two aspects of interactive learning, expressing and co-constructing ideas. This resource also includes sample interactive learning activities and questions to help educators reflect on the role of interactive learning in their classroom.

Virtual Virginia Statewide LMS Credentials for Educators & Technology/Infrastructure Personnel
Four credential opportunities are available, with two tracks for teachers and other education personnel and two tracks for technology/infrastructure personnel. Each will include a series of webinars and a brief online course. Participants who successfully complete a track will earn a certificate and digital badge worth five hours of professional learning. Register for the webinar series from February-March. 

VASCL Professional Development Opportunities

Social Studies-Building Bridges Through Inquiry and Data Literacy for High School with presenters Annie Evans and Terrell Fleming on March 19 at 4:30– 6 p.m. This free virtual workshop will explore the power of historical inquiry and data literacy to align the newly adopted HSS SOL featuring an array of OER digital humanities tools and resources.
Unmistakable Impact: Scaffolding Learning for Gains and Growth with presenter Dr. John Almarode, JMU, on March 22 at 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Pk-12 Educators will unpack how to design and implement instructional scaffolding that accelerates student learning.

Application Window open for the Science Standards of Learning Revision Committees
The VDOE is seeking nominations for individuals who are qualified and available to serve on the Science Standards Revision Committee to review the K-12 Science Standards of Learning during the summer of 2024. Nominees should be teachers, principals, administrators, content specialists, reading specialists, or other educators who have expertise with the content area and current standards. The Committee will meet between June 25-27 at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, to review and revise the standards. Individuals who wish to serve on a committee to review the K-12 Science Standards of Learning must submit an application using the SOL Teacher Committee Application Form by March 29.

The Virginia Museum of History and Culture Summer Professional Learning
These week-long sessions will be held in July and offer stipends and travel scholarships:
Story of Virginia Week - July 8-12: Explore Virginia history through a timeline approach.
Our Commonwealth Week - July 22-26: Explore Virginia history through a regional approach.

Chesapeake Section of the American Association of Physics Teachers (CSAAPT) Spring 2024 Meeting
Registration is open for the CSAAPT Spring 2024 Meeting on Saturday, March 16 at Delaware State University. The featured speaker, Dr. Diandra Leslie-Pelecky, will be talking on the Physics of NASCAR. Participants can attend in person or virtually. The deadline to register for in-person attendance is midnight of Saturday, March 9, and the deadline for remote attendance is midnight of Friday, March 15.

Longwood University Educational Leadership
For educators who already have a master’s degree, Longwood University’s Educational Leadership Endorsement courses could be the next step you take in your career. Choose a one-year or two-year track. The program is offered in a hybrid format with classes meeting once a month in a cohort loin a variety of locations. A fully online option is available for those living more than 90 minutes away from the meeting locations. A discounted tuition rate of $285 per credit (in-state) is available, and Longwood has waived the application fee until May 1. Provisional Licensure Completion Initiative from Longwood University
Are you a provisionally licensed teacher interested in advancing your career and looking for required professional studies courses? Longwood University has the courses you may need for licensure at a discounted rate of $285 per credit! Based on your letter from the VDOE and your transcripts, we will complete a personalized plan outlining the courses you need to be fully licensed and advise and coach you along the way. Master of Education - Special Education Program Launching Summer 2024 at University of Virginia
Are you a professional educator interested in deepening your skills, broadening your knowledge base, and pursuing new roles within special education? The University of Virginia School of Education and Human Development is pleased to launch the Master's in Education-Special Education program, beginning summer 2024. For more information, attend an information session on March 18 at 7:00 p.m.

Radford University: School of Teacher Education and Leadership
Join the Radford University School of Teacher Education and Leadership for a virtual information session about the following 100% online programs: Curriculum & Instruction (M.S.); Literacy Education (M.S. & Certificate); Mathematics Education (M.S. & Certificate); Ed Leadership (M.S.); Special Ed (M.S.), Education (Ed.D.); and the Provisional to Professional Pathway Program for provisionally licensed teachers. Reduced tuition rate for Virginia Educators pursuing master’s level work is available and some programs have grant funding opportunities. Information sessions will be held on March 13 and April 3, from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Reading Specialist Programs at William & Mary
William & Mary offers a MAED program and a post-professional online certificate for teachers who would like to add a reading specialist endorsement. Both programs are fully online, offered in 7-week terms during fall and spring semesters and 5-week terms over summers. New cohorts start in July! For information email denise.johnson@wm.edu.
