VDOE joins the Virginia Academy of School Psychologists  and the National Association of School Psychologists  in celebrating National School Psychology Week next week, November 8-12, 2021. The acronym GEAR: Grow, Engage, Advocate, and Rise is this year’s theme, “Let’s Get in GEAR,” challenges us to grow both personally and professionally. It encourages us to engage in best practices, and advocate for children’s access to mental health and learning supports. Virtual Virginia Canvas Features LIVE Workshop Series
The upcoming VV Canvas Features LIVE Workshop Series will include hands-on workshops that dive into the essential components of the Canvas LMS and the blended education experience. The workshops are intended for educators who are new to Canvas LMS. Visit VV and register for the following 4 p.m. sessions:

Applications Now Available for 2022 GWLA
The website with GWLA Applications and information is now updated with the 2022 information. Superintendent's Memo 287-21 announcing the 2022 Summer Residential Program was posted on October 15 and has additional information.  Students must begin the application process no later than January 6, 2022

National Science Foundation PAEMST Interest Webinar Series
These webinars are for teachers of mathematics and science who are interested in applying for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). Beginning November 9, webinars will be hosted throughout the cycle to provide information about the application, tips from alumni, and answer questions. Find out more today

Student Centered Coaching: Building Principal and Coach Partnerships
In this workshop, participants will learn how the roles of principal and coach work together; strategies for aligning coaching with school improvement processes; and effective practices for principal and coach meetings. It is recommend to attend with your principal, but not required. Join your peers for this VASCD workshop at Blue Ridge Community College on November 18.

NSTA Webinars
These free webinars are live professional learning experiences that allow participants to interact with nationally acclaimed experts. On November 17 at 7:00 p.m., the seminar title is Engaging Students in Three Dimensional Learning with Science Notebooks.           

U.S. Department of State Study Abroad Scholarships for High School Students
The application periods are currently open for several study abroad programs. These scholarships cover international airfare, tuition, program costs, meals, and living accommodations (often with a host family).  The programs have no language prerequisites, except for certain Youth Ambassadors programs.  Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 18.5 when the program starts.

NEF STEM Materials
The National Energy Foundation  is offering free, STEM-based materials that can be used with grades K-6 as students learn the benefits of electric vehicles. Teachers will receive classroom and student posters, access to lesson plans, games and a plethora of online materials.         

XchangeNet Webinar: Building a Diverse & Inclusive Talent Pipeline 
Business executives, CTE Directors, administrators, work-based learning coordinators, and teachers are invited to participate in XchangeNet. This is a virtual, statewide network hosted by Virginia Ed Strategies and VDOE offering ongoing professional learning and resources related to talent pipeline development. Jason Tyszko, Vice President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation's Center for Education and the Workforce will be the guest on November 30 at 3:30 p.m. The interactive session will have Q&A based on the report, Building a More Inclusive Talent Marketplace: Increasing Opportunity through Community & Business-Led Initiatives.
