VDOE 2020 EdEquityVA Week Virtual Symposiums 
VDOE is pleased to announce the 2020 EdEquityVA Week Virtual Symposiums will be held December 1-2. Join Governor Northam, VA Secretary of Education Atif Qarni, and State Superintendent James Lane for statewide discussions on Culturally Relevant Pedagogy with Dr. Gloria Ladson-Billings and Closing Opportunity Gaps with Dr. John B. King, Jr. This symposium is open to all Virginia Educators at no cost but registration is required.

EdEquityVA Week 
Governor Ralph S. Northam has proclaimed November 30-December 4 as EdEquityVA Week in the Commonwealth. This is an opportunity to recognize the efforts of Virginia educators to advance equity outcomes for all students. Throughout the week, VDOE will be recognizing the work of school leaders, education stakeholders, advocates, policy makers, and teachers who have demonstrated courageous equity leadership in the Commonwealth. 

#GoOpenVA Pharmacy Technician FlexBook
The Pharmacy Technician FlexBook is the first openly-licensed textbook for #GoOpenVA. This work was a dedicated effort by two Virginia Beach Public Schools educators to support the new CTE course for Pharmacy Technicians. Check it out today!

2020-2021 School Year Emergency Guidelines Information
VDOE has provided new information to school divisions on the Emergency Guidelines for the Use of Local Performance Assessments to Verify Credits in Writing for the 2020-2021 School Year and the Emergency Guidelines for the Use of Local Alternative Assessments in Lieu of the Virginia Studies, Civics and Economics, and Grade 8 Writing  Standards of Learning Tests for the 2020-2021 School Year.

VDOE will be offering two webinars to assist teachers in using the newly developed Geometry and Algebra II Just in Time Mathematics Quick Check resources to support 2020-2021 lesson planning and instruction. Sign up today:

Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute Lessons Now in #GoOpenVA
Did you know that #GoOpenVA has resources from national organizations as well as Virginia-based educators? Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute just released 40 lesson plans for elementary teachers, many of which can be taught in person or online.

Teaching Online for Global Competence
U.S. Department of State is offering a self-paced online course called, Teaching Online for Global Competence. This course will be available until March 1, 2021. Participants will explore tools and methods for virtual learning within cross-cultural communities in three different modules.

Call for Participation in the VKRP Feedback Survey
Participants in the Fall VKRP assessments have the opportunity to have their voices heard! Teachers and instructional leaders will receive a unique link for the feedback survey via their division emails within the next week. Please contact the VKRP team with any questions about the survey.

DWR is offering a complimentary subscription to the digital edition of the award winning Virginia Wildlife magazine to all Virginia teachers! Interested educators should visit Virginia Wildlife online.

Call for Applications for Early Childhood Advisory Committee
The Virginia Board of Education is seeking applications to serve a three-year term on the ECAC, a new advisory committee on all matters relating to early childhood care and education programs, systems, and regulations. Educators, administrators, system leaders, advocates, associations and community members are invited to submit applications. Applications are due by December 18. See Superintendent’s Memo 296-20 for details.

Virginia Mathematics Pathways Initiative (VMPI)
In order to collect stakeholder feedback specifically from K-12 mathematics teachers, VDOE is hosting regional 45-minute webinars. The purpose is to provide an overview of the VMPI recommendations as they specifically relate to the classroom teacher. Targeted regional webinars will be held to ensure that space is available in each session. Sign up for your region today:
