The story of Arlington's Fire Station 8 occupies a special place in American history. For decades, the Hall's Hill fire station has been at the forefront of battles over segregation and gender equality. For the crews working there, the job was always the same: serve the people of Arlington. 

Weekend Party Plans

Rain or shine, Arlington Palooza kicks off on Saturday, May 17. The free festival features something for everyone, including live music, dance lessons, and animal encounters.

Summer is Waiting

Registration is now open for the Summer 2025 Enjoy Arlington catalog. From gymnastics and swim classes to nature programs and creative workshops, the catalog is packed with exciting options for all ages.

For in-person registration, you can stop by Lubber Run Community Center starting Fri., May 16 at 8 a.m.

• Join us for an open house on May 20 to learn about upcoming infrastructure projects and the benefits these investments bring to the streets, parks, and pipes of North Arlington.
  
  
• Share your feedback about the final draft concept for the public space at 2500 Wilson Blvd. before the deadline on May 20.
  
  
• There is still time to weigh in on the final draft concept for the 23rd St. S. and S. Eads St. Park Renovation.
  
  
• Arlington Public Library is inviting everyone to a Community Picnic and Joining Fair on May 31. It features food trucks, games, music and many organizations sharing information about their activities.

• A second rabid fox has been found in Arlington. On May 9, Animal Control recovered a dead fox from the bike trail near N. Ohio St. and 14th St. N. in Highland Park—Overlee Knolls.
  
  
• Another round of street sweeping is underway in Arlington. Find your neighborhood on the 2025 schedule.
  
  
• Join County leaders at the next in-person Open Door Monday on May 19 at Lubber Run Community Center. Register online or at the event.
  
  
• Celebrate the kickoff of WorldPride DC 2025 at the Show Your Pride: Light Projection and Block Party on May 17. *In the event of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled.
  
  
• Need help writing a resume or job hunting? Arlington Public Library is offering expert assistance at two events on May 17 and May 21.
  
  
• Several County departments are jointly hosting a free event for government workers who are thinking about opening a new business. Register and attend on May 20.
  
  
• The County Board awards the 2024 Bill Thomas Park Volunteer Award to the Tree Stewards of Arlington and Alexandria.
  
  
• Middle-school students are invited to a special screening of "The Marvels" on May 22. Attendees will also be able to get henna tattoos!

New and Improved

Starting on June 29, WMATA will be implementing their Better Bus Network Redesign to consolidate bus stops and rename bus routes throughout the region. All Metrobus routes will go by new names. You can use the complete Virginia Metrobus Route List to cross reference your current routes with the new routes.
