CSMS # 62775668 - National Marine Fisheries Service updates the HTS codes subject to Certification of Admissibility requirements from Mexico
The U.S. National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) updated the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes subject to the Certification of Admissibility (COA) requirements from Mexico. NMFS updated the HTS codes to reflect the International Trade Commission's 2024 revision (replacing the 2022 version previously posted on NMFS' website).
Under the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA), NMFS imposed import restrictions on designated fish products caught in certain Mexican fisheries operating in the Upper Gulf of California to protect the vaquita, a species of porpoise endemic to the area. Information on the embargo and entry requirements for the designated fish products originating in Mexico is posted on the NMFS website: https://www.fisheries.noaa.gov//foreign/marine-mammal-protection/seafood-import-restrictions.
Shipments filed under the listed HTS codes are eligible for entry only if accompanied by a COA signed by an official designated by the Government of Mexico. Entries from Mexico are inadmissible if using a designated HTS code that is not accompanied by the COA.
For technical questions on entry filings and COA use, please contact NMFS at trademonitoring.support@noaa.gov.
For questions on the MMPA import provisions, please contact NMFS at mmpa.loff@noaa.gov.
