Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will on May 18, 2023 allow the option for CBP Officers to notify the EEI filer of Hold and Release messages.

AESTIR Appendix A – Commodity Filing Response Messages

The following codes have been added to the AESTIR Appendix A – and are ready for testing in certification. Software Vendors should contact their respective Client Representative to begin testing. The AESTIR Appendix A is located at the link: https://www.cbp.gov/trade/aes/aestir/appendices

Response Code: 97H
Narrative Text: SHIPMENT ON HOLD
Severity:       INFORMATIONAL
Proprietary Record ID/Data Elements: N/A
X.12 Segment ID/Data Elements:       N/A
Reason:     The shipment has been put on HOLD in AES.
Resolution: The shipment is placed on hold by CBP for further inspection or missing documentation. Contact the CBP port at xxx-xxx-xxxx with your ITN information for further instructions on how to resolve the issue.

Response Code: 97R
Narrative Text: SHIPMENT HOLD RELEASED

Reason:     The shipment on hold has been released.
Resolution: The hold placed on the shipment has been released.
The referenced shipment can be exported.

EEI filers that utilize AESDirect will receive the response codes similar to the current process, via email.

Note: 97H and 97R can only be initiated manually.
Note: 97H and 97R response messages are active in Certification.
Note: A follow-up message will announce when the messages will be active in production.
