CSMS #50090573 - Overview of the American Innovation and Manufacturing (AIM) Act Webinar
The purpose of this message is to announce an upcoming webinar on November 18, 2021 to be held in conjunction with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This webinar will provide an overview of the American Innovation and Manufacturing (AIM) Act.
The AIM Act directs EPA to phase down production and consumption of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) in the United States by 85 percent by 2036. HFCs are potent greenhouse gases, many of which have global warming potentials hundreds to thousands of times that of carbon dioxide. HFCs are commonly used in many sectors of the economy, including in refrigeration and air conditioning, aerosols, solvents, fire suppression, and as foam blowing agents.
As part of the phasedown, starting January 1, 2022, there are new requirements for imports of HFCs. More specifically, imports of bulk HFCs and HFC blends of any quantity require allowances, subject to limited exceptions. More information about the AIM Act and EPA’s regulations can be found at: https://www.epa.gov/climate-hfcs-reduction. In addition, a fact sheet for importers can be found here: https://www.epa.gov/system/files/documents/2021-11/hfc-allocation-rule-importer-requirements-fact-sheet.pdf
