CSMS #43272528 - Notice of Foreign Fishing Vessels presumed to have engaged in IUU fishing – Subject to Prohibition on Importation and/or Seizure and Forfeiture
This message informs importers and filers that U.S. law, including 16 United States Code (USC) 1857(1)(Q), prohibits the importation of Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fish and fish products, including seafood harvested by vessels that have fished in contravention of foreign national law or in violation of any treaty or in contravention of any binding conservation measure adopted by an international agreement or organization to which the United States in a party.
All shipments of seafood (see HTS Chapters 03 and 16) arriving for entry at a CBP Port of Entry (POE) that was harvested by the below listed foreign fishing vessel(s) which have been identified to NOAA as having engaged in Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing, is prohibited from entry and/or subject to seizure and forfeiture, pursuant to the species and specified harvest period.
NOTE: With regard to this CSMS, this notification is provided to offer assistance to importers to help you ensure that you do not source from harvest vessels subject to import restrictions. This action is necessary to support NOAA Seafood Trade Monitoring efforts and NOAA’s implementation of U.S. law.
