Find out how Sidmouth's Community Food Forest is growing

A group of volunteers, led by Stefan Drew and Tess Bisson, approached East Devon District Council to develop a community food forest on Byes Lane. The initiative aims to provide both a space for local people's wellbeing, as well as wildlife conservation, and nature friendly food production.

Watch the short video to find out more about the progress of the food forest project.

squeezed toothpaste tube

Did you know your empty toothpaste tubes can go in your green recycling sack?

That’s right – once they are empty, give them a quick squeeze, cap them, and toss them in!

Why it matters

Tubes made from recyclable plastics and metals can be turned into new products, reducing waste, and saving energy.

  1. Finish the product
  2. Flatten the tube
  3. Replace the cap
  4. Pop it in your green sack

If you're unsure if something is recyclable, visit the A-Z search tool on the Recycling and Waste webpages. Thank you for recycling.

Have your say on the future of local government in Devon

Help shape the final recommendation about the future of local government.

Areas like Devon, which currently operate under a two-tier system (with both district and county councils), are now being asked to consider moving to a unitary authority model, where a single council is responsible for all local services.

Complete the online survey before the deadline of Monday 11 August 2025.

If you, or someone you know, is unable to complete one of East Devon District Council's online surveys, request a paper version, by emailing engagement@eastdevon.gov.uk. Please submit this request at least four days before the consultation closes, so that we receive the responses before the deadline.
