New Year is the perfect time to improve health and wellbeing
Exeter is the perfect location to get active and improve health and wellbeing at this time of year – either at one of the City Council’s leisure facilities or simply by enjoying the great outdoors.
That’s the message from Cllr Duncan Wood, Lead Councillor for Leisure Services and Healthy Living.
The city has a number of brilliant leisure facilities including the state-of-the-art St Sidwell’s Point and Riverside Leisure Centre where staff can talk through the best options for anyone interested in becoming fitter.
There are also many community-based clubs, classes and teams to join across the city and Exeter also has a host of outstanding green spaces and parks for anyone wanting to enjoy a walk and give their health and wellbeing a boost.

  Holocaust Memorial Day
Holocaust Memorial Day commemorated at Exeter Cathedral service
Events were held across Exeter to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration camp, and the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Bosnia.
Events taking place in Exeter included talks, reflections, a human rights trail and a candle-lighting ceremony.
The Lord Mayor of Exeter Cllr Kevin Mitchell was among those who lit candles at Exeter Cathedral.

 Dispose of your real Christmas tree
Disposing of your real Christmas trees
Garden Waste customers can put their real Christmas trees out (with their brown bin or ECC garden sacks, if required) for a one-off collection on their first scheduled collection of the year. See exeter.gov.uk/bincollections for details of collections in your area.
We would encourage everyone else to take their tree/s to the recycling centres on Exton Road (Marsh Barton) and Pinbrook Road (off Pinhoe Road) if you haven't disposed of them yet. See devon.gov.uk/wasteandrecycling/centre
Please do not leave your tree anywhere else, such as in car parks or by recycling banks.
This is actually an act of fly tipping, which is an offence. We are not making tree collections other than with garden waste bins as above.
