The role of a foster carer is a varied one, where you support and care for children and young people who can't stay with their own family. But what does it actually involve? A lot of the time it means just doing the things that every family does.
We asked our carers to share four photos that show a little bit of 'there life as a foster carer". Here's the four things our carer Natalie picked...
Dessler the dog - One of the loveliest things about fostering has been seeing the children and young people fall in our love with our dog Dessler. And she falls right back in love with them. Many kids have now sat on our sofas and had a dog on their lap, though as a black labrador she really isn't a lap dog! It also so sweet how she loves to run upstairs in the morning to check they are there and say hello.
Visiting family and other places - We are lucky enough to have in-laws who own a cabin up north. This has meant quite a few of our kids have visited it and enjoyed seeing the beauty of Scotland.
Dining table lego - Fun on any surface. Often having a kid living with you means the furniture is used in many different ways. Lego at the dining table is definitely one of my favorites.
Dino destruction - Sometimes for a planned short break you get to know some of the kids interests before they come. In this case one of the boys was mad about dinosaurs (and loved making a mess). These dinosaur eggs provided hours of fun for them (and then for me for the next few weeks clearing up orange dust!) The joy on their face was worth it

Gill and Paddy celebrate being foster carers for 17 years!
At our foster carers Christmas lunch in December, we were pleased and proud to give out long service achievement awards. This included Gill and Paddy who have been foster carers with us for 17 years, yes 17 years!
Gill and Paddy started with us as interim carers, offering temporary care for children, before becoming permanent foster carers in 2014.
Thank you Gill and Paddy for all you do!
