City Offices Closed
City of Waco offices will be closed for Independence Day on Friday, July 4. Residents with a Friday trash collection day will have their gray waste carts and green yard waste carts collected earlier on Wednesday, July 2.
 On Tuesday, June 17, Waco City Council appointed Robin “Robby” Bergerson as the next fire chief for the City of Waco. He brings more than 32 years of fire service experience, including nearly 28 years dedicated to serving the Waco community. His proven leadership, operational expertise, and deep institutional knowledge make him uniquely qualified to lead the department into its next chapter.
Chief Bergerson will be getting officially sworn in on Monday, June 30. Join us in welcoming your new Waco Fire Chief.

 Remember, fireworks are not allowed in the City of Waco. It is against the law in Waco to possess, use, manufacture, sell, give away, transport, or discharge fireworks within Waco City Limits or within 5,000 feet without a permit from the Fire Marshall. Sparklers are not considered fireworks and are OK to purchase and use. Please be considerate and celebrate Independence Day responsibly. Your safety is our primary concern.

 Fourth of July might be a blast for us, but fireworks and loud bangs can be scary for our furry friends.
- Keep your pets indoors and secure.
- Collar, tag, and microchip your pets, so that Pet Circle Regional Animal Shelter can easily identify their owner if your pet gets lost.
- Remember to update the contact information registered with the microchip.
- Never allow pets near fireworks of any kind, not even sparklers.

 Starting today, (Monday, June 23,) the Texas Department of Transportation will begin reducing both directions of Interstate 35 from 12th Street to S Loop 340 down to two lanes, starting with the southbound main lanes. Various lane closures will be in place each night for this work. Please follow all directional signage and watch for crews in the work zones.
Once traffic is shifted, crews will close several northbound exits and direct connects. TxDOT and the contractor expect this configuration to be in place for approximately two years.
 The City of Waco is excited to announce that five businesses were selected to receive the first round of Corridor Beautification Incentive Grants. The City of Waco and each business will split the cost for exterior improvements. The City plans to reimburse up to $48,000 total for the five businesses. Each business will use their funds to match their grant amount to go toward the overall project cost.

 Cameron Park Zoo is thrilled to welcome a big new personality. Meet Mosi, a four-year-old Southern white rhino! Born on July 11, 2021, at the Virginia Zoological Park, Mosi has started rotating exhibit time with Ethel, our other rhino. Soon, they'll get to meet, but for now, they will take turns enjoying the spotlight.
Southern white rhinos are listed as Near Threatened due to habitat loss and poaching for their horns. These majestic creatures roam the grasslands, savannahs, and shrublands of southern Africa, from South Africa to Zambia.
