At the May 13 Waco City Council meeting, Isabel Lozano was sworn in to Waco City Council to represent District Two. We also welcomed back Councilmembers Darius Ewing and George Chase as the elected representatives for Districts Four and Five. Each councilmember was sworn in for a two-year term.
District One Councilmember Andrea Barefield was also named as our mayor pro tem by a vote of the Council. The mayor pro tem steps in when Mayor Jim Holmes is unavailable. We look forward to continuing the great work of this council as they lead us into Waco's bright future!
The City of Waco would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Councilmember Alice Rodriguez for her leadership and commitment to our City. Councilmember Rodriguez has served on council for over 26 years beginning in 1991. We are deeply appreciative of her efforts to improve District Two and our community.
At her last meeting, Councilmember Rodriguez passed the torch to Isabel Lozano, and City staff, fellow councilmembers, and guests celebrated with a lively mariachi performance and reception. Waco Mayor Jim Holmes also unveiled Alice Martinez Rodriguez Park in honor of Councilmember Rodriguez's legacy and dedication to the South Waco community.
