AAPI Heritage Month is celebrated in the U.S in May to recognize the contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to our country's history, culture, and society. This month (and every month!), we recognize, celebrate, and uplift our AAPI communities here in Waco!
AAPI Heritage Month was established in 1978 by Congress to honor the first Japanese immigrants who arrived in the U.S. on May 7, 1843. The celebration was later expanded to a month-long observance in 1990 by President George H. W. Bush to include the diverse cultures of all Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

Warmer weather means more outdoor fun. Unfortunately, mosquitos come out too! As we get into mosquito season, the elimination of potential mosquito breeding habitats is critical for the prevention of mosquitoes in McLennan County.
- Remove standing water in your yard
- Mow your grass regularly
- Use an EPA-approved mosquito repellent with DEET
- Wear long sleeves and pants and loose, light-colored clothing when outdoors
