Newly Published Uncertified Teacher Reports 

Did you know?

The Educator Data, Research and Strategy Division at the Texas Education Agency has released new reports presenting data on uncertified teachers in Texas. Uncertified Teachers are individuals who have a teaching assignment but do not have any active credential issued by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC). The newly published reports include:

  • Uncertified Teacher Rates 2018-2019 through 2023-2024: presents statewide, annual estimates on the amount and proportion of uncertified teachers. This report is best suited to answer questions such as: 
  • What was the proportion of Uncertified Teachers in Texas in the 2023-2024 school year?

In 2023-2024, 10.9% of total teachers across the state were uncertified (38,257 uncertified teachers out of a total of 352,303 teachers)

  • Uncertified Teachers for SY 2023-2024 by Grade Level and Subject Area: presents estimates on the amount and proportion of uncertified teachers. This report shows teacher full-time equivalents (FTEs), followed by certified and uncertified FTE values, aggregated to the assigned grade level band and PEIMS subject area. This report is best suited to answer questions such as:
  • What percentage of FTEs were taught by uncertified teachers in Mathematics for Middle School (Grades 6-8) in the 2023-2024 school year?

In 2023-2024, 10.8% of FTEs for Mathematics were taught by uncertified teachers in Middle School (Grades 6-8).

These reports provide information about the rates of uncertified teachers in the state-wide teacher workforce.
