The Educator Data, Research, and Strategy team at Texas Education Agency maintains several reports containing important information on Employed Principal Attrition and New Hires, Employed Principal Demographics, as well as Newly Certified Principal Demographics by Preparation Route.
The Employed Principal Attrition and New Hires report presents statewide values for principal attrition and new hires and contains data up to and including the 2023-2024 school year. This report is best suited to answer questions such as:

How many employed principals exited their role following the 2022-2023 academic year? Out of the 8,366 employed principals in 2022-2023, 1,766 exited their role following the academic year, representing 21.1% of all employed principals.
The Newly Certified Principal Demographics by Preparation Route report shows the number and percentage of candidates who received a standard principal certification through a Texas educator preparation program. This report contains data up to and including the 2022-2023 school year and is best suited to answer questions such as:

What percentage of principals prepared through a University Preparation Route were White, Black/African American, and Hispanic/Latino? Out of the 1,342 newly certified principals prepared through a University Preparation Route, 58.4% were White, 12.8% were Black/African American, and 25.3% were Hispanic/Latino.
