Newly Certified and New Teacher Hires 2023-2024 Dashboard

Did you know?

The Newly Certified and New Teacher Hires Dashboard, maintained by the Educator Data, Research, and Strategy team at Texas Education Agency allows users to determine how many new teacher hires came from different sources in each local education agency in the state.

In addition to providing visualizations, the data is available for download for users to do their own analyses. We provide examples that make use of the data.

Example 1: The following chart summarizes the percentage of districts hiring at least one traditionally prepared teacher from 2018-2019 to the 2023-2024 school year

Chart 1
  • As measured by the dashboard, 25% of districts (or 298 out of 1,178 districts that had a new hire) hired at least one traditionally prepared teacher in 2023-2024, representing a 6-percentage point decrease from the 2022-2023 school year and an 8-percentage point decrease from the 2018-2019 school year.

Example 2: The following chart summarizes the percentage of districts hiring at least one teacher without a Texas Certification from 2018-2019 until the 2023-2024 school year.

Chart 2

  • As shown in the chart above, 88% of districts (or 1,032 out of 1,178 districts that had a new hire) hired at least one new teacher without a Texas certification in the 2023-2024 school year, representing a 3-percentage point increase from the 2022-2023 school year and a 17-percentage point increase from the 2018-2019 school year.
