Understanding Trends in Teacher Retention by Preparation Route and Pathway to Teaching
The Teacher Attrition and Retention reports that are maintained by the Educator Data, Research and Strategy team provide information on rates of teacher persistence through certification, hiring, and continued employment. These data provide information on several topics, including: 1) Teacher Retention by Pathway to First Year of Teaching 2) Teacher Retention by Preparation Route Each report is useful to answer a specific set of questions.
The Teacher Retention by Pathway to First Year of Teaching report (updated in October 2023) is best suited to answer questions such as

How many individuals without a Texas certification began their first year of teaching in a Texas public school in the 2021-2022 school year? 8,165 individuals without a Texas certification began their first year of teaching in a Texas public school in 2021-2022.

How many of these individuals remained teaching in a Texas public school in the 2022-2023 school year? Of these 8,165 individuals, 76.6% (6,257) remained teaching in a Texas public school in 2022-2023.
The Teacher Retention by Preparation Route report (updated in March 2023) is best suited to answer questions such as:

How many first-year teachers obtained their initial standard certification through an undergraduate preparation route and began teaching in a Texas public school in the 2021-2022 school year? 8,062 first-year teachers began teaching in 2021-2022.

What percentage of these teachers remained employed as a teacher in a Texas public school in the 2022-2023 school year? 92.2% of these teachers (7,342) remained employed as a teacher in a Texas public school in the 2022-2023 school year.
