TREC Statement on Events at the US Capitol

The Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) has received many comments and requests related to license holders’ involvement in the events that occurred at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. The Commission is limited in the action it may take against real estate license holders by the Real Estate License Act, the governing law that describes the Commission’s jurisdiction. For instance, the Commission may suspend or revoke a license holder that is convicted of a felony or a criminal offense involving fraud.

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a great holiday filled will peace and joy. During the holidays, I like to take time to reflect on the past year and the agency's direction. I am grateful for so many things during these times, including a fantastic team of employees, volunteers, and appointed Commission members.

Legislative Session Kick-Off

The 87th legislative session kicked off Tuesday, January 12, 2021.  We are tracking filed bills and have a system to review all bills that have a potential impact on our license holders.  This will be a unique session, but only time will tell what it may look like.

Contracts Course Required for Renewal Starting February 2021

On February 1, 2021, sales agents and brokers will be required to complete at least three hours in contract-related coursework as part of the 18 hours of continuing education (CE) required to renew a license.  For your convenience, a “contracts” search filter is available on the "Approved Real Estate CE Course List," which allows license holders to search for contract-related courses.

TREC Launches Next Phase of Education Provider Audit Program

The Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) will launch the second phase of the education provider audit program in January 2021.  TREC rules give staff authority to audit education providers and permits staff to conduct on-site audits without prior notice.  Staff may also enroll in and attend a course without identifying themselves as TREC employees.
