Agency Receives Distinguished Award
The Texas Real Estate Commission and Appraiser Licensing & Certification Board is pleased to announce the agency has won two coveted Association of Real Estate License Law Officials (ARELLO) Communications Awards. One is for the new integrated communications plan, and the other for Board and Commission meeting communications. The agency will be recognized for these achievements and will make presentations on these topics at the ARELLO Annual Conference on September 28th, 2018.

The extended heat of August has been relieved a bit by rains in early September. I hope the typical market frenzy of summer has moderated a bit so you can focus on your professional development as well.
The regular quarterly meeting of the Commission was held on August 13 and we achieved some important milestones in our work that day. We greatly appreciate the time and focus the Commissioners and the agency staff give to this agency to accomplish our mission. We look forward to ongoing opportunities to improve both the quality of protection we afford to Texans and the service we provide to license holders.

Good News For Texas Consumers!
In a recent article on the website, "The Real Deal", Texas was named one of the best states for transparency relating to disciplinary actions taken by the Commission.
"Texas was only state examined which provided a flexible search engine for consumers, allowing users to construct custom queries using various criteria."
Thanks to the hard work of the Commission, Texas consumers can reliably search disciplinary history and ensure they know disciplinary histories of the people they are working for.
 Using Realty in Team Names
At the Commission Meeting on Monday, August 13, 2018, the Commission adopted changes to the advertising rules (§535.155) allowing Broker team names to include the term "realty," so long as the other requirements for team names are met. For example, a team name must still end with the word “team” or “group.” A team name of “John Doe Realty Group” is allowed, but a team name of “John Doe Realty” is not. The Commission adopted these changes based on feedback received from license holders, so we thank you for your input!

Make Sure Paragraph 21 is Filled Out
The One to Four Family Residential Contract (Resale), like many contracts, contains a “Notices” provision. In that TREC contract, the provision is in Paragraph 21. This needs to be filled out so the parties know where a notice should be sent or delivered to be effective. A license holder should remind their client how important this provision is and ensure, to the extent possible, that it gets filled out fully and accurately.
